Scientific lecture: Infection Prevention and Control in Post-Pandemic Dental Practice by Dr Jane Renehan

Aim of Presentation:  

To review the current and future infection prevention and control (IPC) processes in dentistry

Objectives: 

  1. Examine key IPC changes which have occurred in dentistry since the pandemic. 
  2. Review dental nurses’ IPC current roles and responsibilities. 
  3. Anticipate what IPC work practices may look like in a post-vaccination era. 

Learning Outcomes: 

By the end of the presentation attendees will have had an opportunity to: 

  1. Revise existing IPC best practice processes.  
  2. Examine the challenges and opportunities for IPC processes resulting from new ways of working during a pandemic. 
  3. Anticipate what the post-vaccination IPC processes in dental practice may look like. 

The presentation will take place over 55 minutes followed by 15 minutes for Q&As via the chat room on Zoom.

Dr Jane Renehan, Compliance Consultant,M.Dent.Sc., M.B.A. (Hons)  

Dr Renehan is recognised as the national expert on clinical regulations and statutory guidelines in Dentistry. In 2018 Jane established Dental Compliance Ltd, providing advisory and training services to dental practices, so that dental teams are compliant and inspection ready. 

Prior to founding her company, Jane was a HSE Principal Dental Surgeon for 20 years with a reputation for simplifying complex legislation, developing common-sense solutions for radiation protection, infection control, waste management, and dental practice risk management. 

Internationally, Jane’s regulation expertise was acknowledged when, in 2019, she was elected Chair of the Council of European Dentists (CED) working group on Dental Materials and Medical Devices. In this role, she works closely with dentists and dental associations throughout Europe, the EU Commission and European Dental Manufacturers.   She is a member of the Irish Dental Association’s Quality and Patient Safety Committee where she helps develop standards and audit tools for infection prevention

The 2021 Annual Scientific Meeting of the Irish Society for Dentistry for Children will celebrate the establishment of our Society in Cork fifty years ago. We will host an online event, which will encompass an interesting educational programme, as well as an opportunity to reflect on our past, present and future. We look forward to seeing you all in May. 

In recognition of the significance of this milestone year for the ISDC, we are pleased to offer reduced registration fees for the online event. We hope that this facilitates as much participation as possible in this celebration.
